Emergency First Aid (8 hours)
Introductory program focuses on:
- Life threatening emergencies
- Preparing to respond
- Emergency Medical System
- Airway, Breathing, Circulation
- Respiratory emergencies
- Cardiac emergencies and arrest
Standard First Aid (16 hours)-includes CPR/AED
This program provides more in depth information than Emergency First Aid. This course includes non-life threatening injuries. These injuries can quickly become serious conditions if not recognized and treated correctly. In addition to the Emergency First Aid program, this course includes:
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries
- Wound care
- Sudden medical emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
CPR/AED (4 hours)
This course provides the necessary skill to provide cardio pulmonary resuscitation as well as use an automated external defibrillator. It also includes:
- Conscious/unconscious choking
- Heart attack/cardiac arrest/stroke
H2S Alive (8 hours)
This one day program is intended for workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The focus is to provide standard H2S program content to help workers perform their duties safely in and around the H2S environment. The H2S Alive course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques.
Emergency Medical Responder
This program is offered over a three week period. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to write the Alberta College of Paramedics Provincial Examination. This program enables employment Emergency Medical Services serving industry as well as entry level ambulance attendant.
